Once the premier of Canada’s most populous province, Leslie M. Frost enjoyed escaping from political life to his family’s property at Pleasant Point, a small lakeside community near Dunsford. Now his deep interest in the area and its history will be told in the latest talk to be presented in the Kawartha Speaker Series, a project of the Friends of the Dunsford Library.

On June 18, Brian McFadzen, a retired Fleming College professor, who has written many pieces on local history, will bring Leslie Frost’s spirit back to this area he loved. Local residents will learn how this powerful man found refuge in his log cabin on Sturgeon Lake, just a few miles west of their village of Dunsford. Visitors to the area will learn how this quiet rural life, now so attractive to vacationers, also appealed to a man of unusual distinction.

But it’s not just Leslie Frost who will be the evening’s topic. In his talk, “The Lives and Times of Leslie and Cecil Frost, Particularly at Pleasant Point,” McFadzen will describe the early careers of both the Frost brothers, their war years, and the challenges they faced.

The aim of the Kawartha Speaker Series is to help keep Dunsford—and its library— on the map by highlighting the area’s rich heritage, both natural and historical. All are invited to attend this second talk of the series to be held at Dunsford Branch, located in the Dunsford Community Centre, from 7 to 9 pm on June 18.
